Becoming a Christian is exciting and a new beginning.
Whenever I heard the term “Jesus Freak” it conjured up visions of someone dressed in robes passing out flyers at the airport or someone dragging a cross down the road. In the sixties there were groups or communes of young people that sang and chanted about Jesus, peace, and love. So, are these Jesus freaks? What the heck is a Jesus freak anyway?
“Freak“: (Strange) a thing, person, animal, or event that is extremely unusual or unlikely, and not like any other of its type (Cambridge English Dictionary)
Maybe the ones at the airports believe they are doing the Lords work. Dragging a heavy cross is quite a commitment. I do know that drugs and other explicit things were a part of the love, peace, Jesus communes in the sixties (I was there)
So, I got to wondering; “am I a Jesus freak”? Am I strange, unusual, or not like any other? To this I must answer a resounding YES. God sees me as unique and not like any other. In His eye I have unique faults and qualities. Only through Jesus can my faults be erased and my qualities employed to serve Him, not man.
Using my qualities or skills to serve man would therefore include my faults, which would make me much less valuable (if you only knew) LOL. I’ll never be perfect and sometimes a fault will slip out, but I have found that as time goes on; with study, prayer, faith, and dedication they continue to fade. The Bible has a name for it, sanctification and you can’t do this yourself by good works; only through Jesus can you be sanctified. This is different from justification. Justification means when we are saved, we are declared righteous, while sanctification means growing in righteousness.
If you would like to read more about it, here’s a great link.

And, only through Jesus can we be saved. “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved”. Romans 10:13
So, there you have it. That photo of an old fat guy up there: he’s a proud “Jesus Freak”
Very well put!! We all need to be Jesus Freaks. Christ is the only way and no one gets to the father except thru Him. I can put my faith in that!!
Thank you for commenting Sheila!!
