Becoming a Christian is exciting and a new beginning.
Virtually all young people communicate and receive new information via social media. Even most adults now communicate and search for information and answers on the internet. With this in mind would Jesus use social media today to communicate with the world?
In this day and time, the church is not very effective simply going door to door with their message. Few will allow anyone in their home or even answer the door and mailers mostly go straight into file 13.
After much prayer, I believe God wants us to use the best means available in order to reach and bring people to Jesus. In Biblical times few could read so communication consisted of shouting from the mountain or word of mouth to reach the multitudes. Before the internet TV played an important role but today it is social media that is available to almost everyone on the planet.
I don’t see how we can complain that the church is failing to reach out and teach the Word according to the Bible if we are not putting forth our best effort to spread the Word effectively through social media.
As church members and Christians, we are called to witness and spread God’s word. Most of us do the best we can by setting an example and living as a Christian for all to see.
But,
We need to improve the way we communicate and time is of the essence. Nobody knows when, but even at it’s longest, our life here on earth is short, as a vapor in the wind and we also know Jesus is coming again. When might be our last opportunity to share and witness to a friend or lost loved one?
I know there may be a fear of social media from some church members and it’s understandable, but God’s word should not operate from a position of fear.
Jesus was a fearless teacher. Wouldn’t he teach with all the tools available? Shouldn’t God’s Word and its power be spread with the most powerful communication tool we now have, social media? There are billions of people now on earth and many thousands, probably millions who would never have knowledge of Jesus without social media or the internet.
Matthew 7:29Verse Concepts For He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
Church members love their pastor and share a special bond with them. The members also believe their pastor has a powerful message and the correct message. If God communicates through our best pastors do they not deserve the largest audience possible?
There is comfort and a feeling of being “home” at an awesome church with an awesome pastor. We all feel that we are “home” at Olvey Bible Church. It is wonderful when the members of a church
1 Corinthians 9:22 KJV. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might, by all means, save some.
Yes I agree with spreading the word using the tools we have available! Great post!
A lot of good points. Most churches have at least a web page and a lot have a social media page. When we moved to a new area that is exactly how we found our church home nine years ago; from their web page. It described the church mission, hours, address, programs, etc. A way for potential visitors feel welcomed. A social media page keeps the members abreast of current activities just like a Sunday only paper bulletin does. If done properly, can keep members and others up to date in real time, can share up coming activities, bible verses, and such. Just this week a member of our community past away and there was a request for food, it was placed on the church social media page and countless persons brought food that may or may have known the family. Families in need, mission needs, youth activities, trips, church picnics, dinners, etc., all can be easy communicated for those who wish to be connected.
Absolutely! Different times call for different methods.
