New Year’s Resolutions or Goals?

my 2022 goals list on clipboard and coffee against grunge wood desk, setting New Year goals and resolutions

There are a bunch of people who make promises to themselves on New Years Day. I used to do that too. I am a huge supporter of goal setting, but there are many types of goals and goals should always be evolving. My problem with New Years’ goal setting is that it tends to be one or two things. Even if there is a list, it usually only exists inside your head. If your head is anything like mine, the list will soon be mixed around in there like the words of a congressional bill.

There Is a Better Way

Write your goals down. Make a list if you are serious about goal setting.

A good list might include your health, not just to lose weight (which is the most popular one) but just to be healthier.

A good list should include better financial health; maybe not wish to become wealthy, just to have better financial habits.

If you are a person of faith, maybe there is room for improvement. After all, it is probably the most important thing to all of us.

Relationships cannot be overlooked. If your relationships are troubled or non-existent with your family or friends, goals will be almost unattainable and even worthless.

It’s Your List

It’s your personal list but it should include small things as well as large ones. The small things can be part of the larger ones to measure progress along the way. Measuring how we are doing is the most important part of goal setting.

I am not a millionaire, have no degree in goal setting, but have studied it deeply and my life was made much better by a few simple changes in goal setting.

  2. Very true. Goals tend to keep us focused on what is important to us.

Happy New Year to you and your readers!

  3. you know what the problem is with having a list ?
you never get to the end, you always add more
at least that’s what my husband keeps telling me.

  4. Goal setting itself does take some work. Just making a list of things you want to do or accomplish during the coming year is better than nothing but not that helpful. He is correct because a good goal list will have both short- and long-term goals. Monthly, yearly, 5 years, or more. You should take time to celebrate accomplishments, but goal setting should never really end. I could talk about goals all day!! Ask my kids. LOL Thanks for commenting my friend.
