Becoming a Christian is exciting and a new beginning.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? LEARN MORE AND TAKE THE POLL
It took quite a while before we began to allow armed security in some of our schools. It just didn’t seem right having guns in schools. Now we are having to make the same decision with our churches. Should we have church security? Should security be armed? It just does not sound right having guns in church. Are we going to end up carrying guns to work, where we shop, movie theatres, ball games, traveling, anywhere, and everywhere?
There are many who are uncomfortable with guns in church. Some believe that guns do not belong in God’s House because He will protect them. Some believe that when it’s your “time” there is nothing you can do about it because it’s God’s will. We all have a time to be born and a time to die. God knows these times and they are pre-determined, but God also gave us free will. He knows who, when, where, and how we will respond to every event or threat that comes our way. We have choices: we can do nothing and accept whatever comes our way or we can try to change it.
I recently attended a seminar on church security with our team. The instructors were some of the best security specialists in the country because they felt it extremely important to devote their time to such an important issue. The gymnasium was filled with area church security personnel. We learned just how common and horrible these violent attacks are becoming in places of worship. The video accounts were shocking and sickening.
No security plan is full proof and no man can foresee every situation that may arise, but God expects us to be responsible, to love and take care of one another. There are many accounts of God calling his people to protect themselves and others in the Bible.
Philippians 2: 4 “Everyone should look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others” Psalms 94:16 “Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers?” In Luke 22:36 Jesus says to his disciples: “But now if you have a purse take it and also a bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” (The sword was the firearm of that time) And there are many more.

We have to stand vigilant and be ready when darkness knocks at the door. Putting on Gods armor daily will prepare us for battle and the battle now finds its way into the church. Be Ready!!
