Becoming a Christian is exciting and a new beginning.
As Christians, we are called to help others. After spreading the gospel, helping others is our top priority. Putting money in the collection plate is important because your church knows how to put that money to good use, but there is nothing that can compare to personal involvement. There are plenty of sources and activities offered in your community. Please find a way to help others, especially at Christmas.
Luke 3:11 says: He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
Each year at Christmas, my employer of almost 24 years, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center hosts “The Santa Shuffle” which is a run/walk race event that provides toys for local children at Christmas. The entry fee is simply a toy (of your choosing) and the hospital foundation even provides the Santa suits for you to keep. Helping others does not get much easier than this.
During the Christmas season, “Angel Trees” emerge which assists children and families in your area providing Christmas gifts. They are organized by local businesses, churches, law enforcement, and fire departments. You can fit your own budget by selecting any number of children or families to help. The Salvation Army is a great organization that helps the needy and it’s hard to miss the donation buckets during the Christmas season. Make a point to drop a little cash in there. With just a little effort anyone can find a way to help others. We should all give back some of what God has provided. This pleases our Creator.
There are food collection stations all over the place year-round, but they dramatically increase during the holidays. No family should be hungry especially at Christmas. My family never went totally without food. I might not like what it was, but there was always “something” to eat. My wife Elizabeth was not so lucky. As a child, she spent many nights going to bed having absolutely nothing to eat (right here in America). I used to watch her sleeping with tears in my eyes thinking of what she went through. There is no good reason children in our communities should be hungry. Working together we can make sure it does not happen.
If you cannot spare any cash there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in your community. Volunteers make up an important part of many hospitals. Our hospital depends on our wonderful
